Basketball Tournament Time!

Caleb Bball

Hi!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to this new month! As you know, my son Caleb is currently playing basketball and I wanted to give a quick update as the season winds down. His team is currently 8 – 9. They had a rough couple of games at the beginning of their season, but they have worked so hard learning to play together. There is a huge improvement in the way the play now compared to the way they played in November! They Tuslaw Basketball program’s motto is: “Play Harder, Play Smarter, Play More Together.” They are proving this to be true! Good job, Tuslaw Mustangs 7th Grade Basketball Team! Caleb is #40!

Have a great weekend,

Steve Talks Super Bowl!

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Well, the Super Bowl is set with the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. I’m expecting a great game between these two teams. They both have great coaches and players. I’m sure the coaches on both teams will have a great game plan, since they have had two weeks to prepare. New England is the team I want to win, since they got our homegrown offensive coordinator back. Josh McDaniels is from the Canton area, which is right down the street. It’s always nice to see local people win in big games.

Who do you think is going to win?

Have a great weekend,
Steve

Happy New Year’s Eve!

1111-43513 Family is Love

Happy New Year’s Eve! I hope you are busy prepping your festivities for the evening! I usually don’t have extravagant plans to ring in the New Year, and this year is the same. I will be making a big roaster full of pork and sauerkraut and watching the ball drop on the television in my living room. Can’t hold this party animal back! Haha!

My family usually brings out the board games, the sparkling grape juice, and the laughs. We spend the evening enjoying each other’s company and trying to beat one another in one of the new games my kids got for Christmas, stopping only to countdown and welcome the brand New Year! It is a blast!

Barbara Lloyd couldn’t have summed it up any better with this new sampler. Family definitely is LOVE.

If you are heading out this evening, have a safe and enjoyable New Year! Welcome, 2012! How do you ring in the New Year?

Happy New Year!

Beautiful Tea Time Baby Shower

Tea Time Baby Shower

I know lately I have driven everyone crazy by constantly showing them my first grandbaby’s pictures. He is just so darn cute that I can’t help but show him off. Well… guess what? My second grandbaby is due in 9 weeks. Coworkers will be running from me for sure now!

This past Saturday, I went to a baby shower for my second grandson, Brady. We had so much fun! It was held at a tea house, and we had our own personal tea party. We had the most delicious scones and tea I have ever tasted. I never thought hot tea could be so good!

Luckily for Momma, she received tons of clothes for her new little man, and I’m sure he will be adorable in all his cute outfits. I can’t wait to show everyone HIS pictures, too!

Christmas Traditions

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Where has this year gone? Only 11 days before Christmas. Seems as we get older, time goes faster. This time of the year is very special to me. I love watching my two daughters get so excited anticipating Santa’s arrival. Each year, just after Thanksgiving, Santa send two helper elves (Elf on the Shelf) to our house to report back to him on how well our girls are behaving. Each night, they leave and come back in the morning to a new spot in the house. Every morning the girls get up excited to find where their “elf” is sitting when he returned from reporting to Santa at the North Pole. Having the elves around really helps to get them up and moving to get ready for school. Someone needs to invent an “Elf on the Shelf” for the rest of the year!

Have a great weekend,
Kelli

My Favorite Christmas Movies

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

I love Christmas for many reasons. I love how my house looks and smells right after I decorate. I love being in the crazy mass of humanity on Black Friday fighting for all the great deals. I love baking Christmas cookies and breakfast on Christmas morning. I love watching my children open their gifts… and I love watching them give gifts to others. I love the real meaning of Christmas… and sharing that with my family. There is so much to love about this season!

One of my most favorite things to do is watch all the great Christmas movies with my family. There are so many and new ones every year. I’ve listed 10 of the top movies of this season below:

Christmas Toys

Balls of Yarn!Hi there, and Happy Friday!

Like many of you, I’m now trying to get my Christmas shopping done as soon as I possibly can, so I don’t have to rush out Christmas Eve to pick up gifts with the crowds of people that wait until the last minute! My brother and I used to wait until Christmas Eve and have a whirlwind of a shopping day, usually ending up buying tons of gift cards out of frustration. I’ve been put in charge of buying a specific toy for my nephew. I don’t understand how it works, but it’s a coloring or painting pad that he can draw on, and it won’t run off onto the carpet. I love buying him toys and books, puzzles and stuff like that. It’s funny that I spend the money, though. Right now, he gets a kick out of playing with little balls of scrap yarn from my Grandma. He likes to unravel them, twist up in it, and walking around trailing it from room to room. Then, he takes it back to his dad to wind back up. Here is a picture of the two of them on Thanksgiving. They look like a couple of cats, occupied with that yarn!

Is it crazy to spend the big bucks on toys for toddlers? Or should I just give him a cardboard box, some yarn, and a stack of scratch paper to rip up and spread around the house? What do you think?

Have a lovely weekend!

Awaiting Anxiously!

Homemade Kraut Time!

This is a very exciting time at the Hammer household. We are anxiously awaiting the completion of our homemade sauerkraut! Much like waiting for the delivery of a child, you just have to be patient until the product is done “cooking”.

Making sauerkraut is very easy! You need cabbage, salt and man power. You shred the cabbage into a crock. As you layer the ingredients, you pound them and smash them into the crock. It is a little bit of a tedious process, and every year takes a little longer than we remember.

You then let the cabbage ferment for 4 weeks, then can it. The fermentation process is not for the light of stomach, but the final product is amazing. We love sauerkraut and eat it pretty frequently! We have not ever been able to buy in the store what we make! So now, we just be patient!

Have a great week!

It’s Finally Black Friday!

Friday, November 25th, 2011

I am a die-hard Black Friday shopper. I wait until today to start my Christmas shopping. After Thanksgiving dinner, my sisters, my mom and I all sit around the Thanksgiving table with our newspaper ads. We each buy our own newspaper because there is no sharing! We all have a tablet of paper and a pen, and start mapping our adventure for the day! As of last year, we have had to map quickly because stores open earlier than normal! It’s been a tradition of ours for the past 15 years.
