Happy New Year!! I can not believe 2012 is already here. It seems like just yesterday we were worried about the 2000 Y2K bug. Goodness do you remember that? I think I still have jugs of water stored in my basement.
Thankfully nothing like that is looming over us for 2012. I always enjoy celebrating the New Year because after Christmas everything is kind of dragging after all the excitement of gift giving so the New Year Celebration is a welcome event. Do you have any traditions that you follow every year? In my family we have stuck to the same ole traditions for years. On New Year’s Eve the kids and I stay up playing games or watching movies and eating junk until way after midnight. Then the next day we spend the day watching parades, enjoying football, and eating our typical New Year’s Day meal. We have always had some type of meat with collard greens and black eyed peas. My grandparents taught me to eat lots of greens and peas on the first day of the year to bring good luck and lots of money for the coming year (greens for dollar bills, and brown peas for pennies.) This has been our menu ever since I can remember!
What are the tried and true traditions that your family honors for New Years Day? I would love to hear them.

Hi there!
On Thursday, my son Caleb turned the Big 13! Watching him grow up, learning how to make good decisions, and taking on greater responsibilities has made this mommy so proud. His fun loving way of life is infections to everyone around him. I wasn’t bothered as much when my other kids turned 13, but for some reason, I can’t shake the overwhelming feeling of sadness. Caleb is my baby, and in my mind, he should not be allowed to grow up. Wishful thinking…
Hi there, and Happy Friday!
Hi there, and Happy Monday!
My son Caleb has his first basketball game tonight! I am so excited I can hardly stand it. They have been working really hard since the beginning of November. It couldn’t be more perfect! So today I am sending a great big shot out to the Tuslaw Mustangs 7th Grade Basketball players! I will be there cheering you on to victory. Take it to the net, boys!
